The Madras High Court recently temporarily restrained the release of Vishal starrer Mark Antony, which was scheduled for release on September 15..In an order passed on September 9, Justice PT Asha also directed Vishal to appear before the Court on Tuesday, September 12..The order was passed in a case filed against Vishal for allegedly failing to pay ₹15 crore out of the ₹21.29 crore he owes entertainment firm Lyca Productions..As per the suit, Vishal had taken a loan worth over ₹21 crore from one GN Anbu Chezhian. After he failed to repay the loan, Lyca Productions stepped in and paid Anbu Chezhian following an agreement that Vishal will repay Lyca the entire amount along with an annual interest of 30 per cent. However, when Vishal failed to repay Lyca, the company approached the High Court. On March 8 last year, the High Court had directed Vishal to deposit ₹15 crore. At the time, the Court had also restrained Vishal from releasing any films that he produced or financed, in theatres or on over-the-top (OTT) platforms..Lyca recently filed an application claiming that Vishal had neither deposited the money nor filed an affidavit detailing his assets, as ordered by the Court in March 2022.In the present order, Justice Asha said Vishal’s behaviour was “unacceptable” and that it was “aimed at deflecting court orders.”“Considering the conduct of the first defendant [Vishal], which is unacceptable and aimed at deflecting orders of the Court, this Court grants an order of injunction restraining the release of the movie "Mark Antony," in which the first defendant has acted. Considering the repeated flouting of the orders of this Court by the first defendant, the first defendant is directed to appear before this Court on 12.09.2023,” the High Court said..[Read Order]
