The Madras High Court on Monday celebrated the 75th Independence Day and also released a stamp to commemorate the 160th year of its existence..The Madras High Court was one of the three High Courts in India established in the 19th century by Letters Patent granted by Queen Victoria. The other two chartered High Courts are Calcutta High Court and Bombay High Court.The Calcutta High Court was the first to be established on July 1, 1862. The Bombay High Court was the second and came into existence on August 14, 1862 a day before the Madras High Court.The commemorative stamp "Corporate My Stamp" with the image of the High Court building was released by Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari and the first copy of the same was received by the senior-most judge M Duraiswamy.The Chief Justice also distributed gold medals to four drivers of the High Court who completed 20 years of service at the High Court. .As part of the Independence Day celebrations, the Chief Justice hoisted the National Flag in front of the statue of Samaneethi Kanda Cholan and received the guard of honour from Central Industrial Security Force.The event was live streamed on High Court's YouTube channel and was attended by ministers, judges, law officers, officials of the Tamil Nadu and and Puducherry Bar Council as well as many other dignitaries.
