The Supreme Court today set the date for next hearing in the Lokpal matter for after the meeting of the Selection Committee scheduled on July 19..The Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi, R Banumathi, and Navin Sinha was hearing the PIL in Common Cause v. Union of India. The Court today refrained from passing any directions in the matter, in light of the scheduled meeting of the Selection Committee on July 19..The Court, however, expressed its optimism that the Selection Committee will duly formulate a Search Committee during its scheduled meeting as well as a timeframe for the Search committee to complete the mandate under the Act..Justice Gogoi said,.“Let’s start on a positive note that the Search committee will be duly constituted.“.The Attorney General, KK Venugopal expressed reservations that if the process is hurried at this stage, it could be counterproductive..The reservations expressed by the Attorney General was taken on record by the Court.
