Delhi Police has told the Delhi High Court that journalist and Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair’s tweet where he shared an image from a 1983 Hindi movie was against a particular religious community and highly provocative..The police has said that the tweet was published deliberately and was sufficient to incite feelings of hatred among people, and thus can be detrimental for maintenance of peace and tranquillity in society. The court has been told that the case against Zubair has been registered on the basis of the post made on micro-blogging website by Twitter handle named Hanuman Bhakt (@balajikijaiin) where he showed his anger and agony against Zubair..It said that though Zubair joined the investigation on June 27 and admitted that he had posted the post, despite detailed interrogation, he tried to mislead the investigation and provided different answers to the same question on repeated queries.“Finally, Mohd. Zubair disclosed that the laptop and mobile phone used by him for posting the above content is at his residence in Bangalore and he can get the same recovered. Mohd. Zubair had remained non cooperative during the investigation. He also disclosed that he has asked his family to dispose of his equipment including his mobile phone and laptop in case he is arrested/ apprehended by police,” the police has said..The Delhi Police’s response has come on a petition by Zubair challenging a Patiala House Court order remanding him to police custody and the order permitting examination and seizure of his laptop..It has said that devices seized have already been deposited at the Forensic Science Laboratory and data recovered from it will be analysed with respect to the tweet in question and other similarly natured posts. Therefore, the police argued that the petition should be disposed of. .The petition is now listed for hearing on October 31, 2022.
