Vivekananda Reddy murder: Daughter moves Supreme Court against former PA

Suneetha Reddy, daughter of murdered former Kadapa Member of Parliament YS Vivekananda Reddy, has moved the Supreme Court raising grievance against the conduct of the original complainant in the case, one Krishna Reddy..A bench of Justices Krishna Murari and PV Sanjay Kumar on Friday allowed the application filed by Suneetha seeking impleadment in the petition wherein Krishna Reddy sought clarification of an earlier order that he is a 'victim' who would be entitled to challenge grant of pardon to accused in the case.Krishna Reddy was the PA of Vivekananda Reddy.The Court issued notice was also issued to the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) and the matter will now be heard on July 3..The application moved by Suneetha Reddy, through advocate Jesal Wahi, alleged that Krishna Reddy was trying to portray himself as the victim even as he had a role to play in the crime.Earlier this week, Krishna Reddy had told the apex court that he was challenging the pardon granted to one of the co-accused.Suneetha contended in her application that the complainant's plea has been filed at the behest of the accused so as to prevent a probe."[Complainant] is making baseless allegations against the CBI, the Applicant and her husband, which clearly demonstrates that this Petition is an abuse of the process of this Hon’ble Court, with the aim to protect the influential and powerful persons involved in the conspiracy.".Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra, appearing for Suneetha on Friday, stressed that only she and her mother can be considered 'victims' under the law. "Person who came before your lordships is respondents no 3. Not a victim, not family. But he wants to espouse his right. What is the right being espoused?" This issue has been dealt with in CBI investigation." The application was taken on board after Luthra's mentioning..Vivekananda Reddy was stabbed to death at his residence in Kadapa in March 2019. In 2020, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had transferred the investigation into the murder to the CBI.The Supreme Court had in November transferred the trial in the murder case to a Special CBI Court in Hyderabad. Meanwhile, another bench of the Supreme Court issued notice in a plea by Suneetha challenging the grant of regular bail by the Telangana High Court to accused in the murder, T Gangi Reddy.The Supreme Court had in January this year cancelled the default bail earlier granted to Gangi Reddy.In that ruling, it was held that release of an accused person on default bail will not act as an absolute bar to consider a plea for cancellation of bail on merits after presentation of chargesheet.The matter had been remanded the matter to the High Court for fresh consideration, on merits. The High Court then granted regular bail.
