The Uttarakhand Cabinet, in a meeting held on Wednesday, gave its in-principle approval to shift Uttarakhand High Court from Nainital to Haldwani..The decision was taken at a meeting convened under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.The proposal would be crystallised only after consultation with the Chief Justice of the High Court and other functionaries.The Uttarakhand High Court came into existence in the year 2000 when the the State was carved out of Uttar Pradesh. The High Court has been functioning from a building situated in Mallital Nainital which was known as old Secretariat. .The Kerala government is also considering a proposal to shift the Kerala High Court from its current premises in the heart of Kochi city to the suburb of Kalamassery. Soon after the Kerala High Court complex was inaugurated in 2006, complaints regarding poor quality of construction started spreading in legal circles.The present location of the High Court is prone to flooding and waterlogging during the monsoon.
