The Karnataka High Court recently observed that transgender persons who have officially recorded change in gender prior to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 are not required to submit an application for a certificate of identity under Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020 [Christina Lobo v. State of Karnataka].
