Rajan Vichare, the Member of Parliament (MP) from Maharashtra's Thane, has approached the Bombay High Court seeking restoration of his security cover [Rajan Vichare v. Eknath Shinde & Ors.]. .Vichare, who belongs to the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena, alleged threat to his life and claimed that the government machinery was being misused to intimidate him.He claimed his “life had been endangered to extract political upmanship in the State by the government”. The petition arraigned Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Maharashtra police as party respondents.Vichare claimed that the security cover provided to him was reduced to one constable and there was threat to him and his family. He also alleged that personal assistants of MPs or MLAs were being given security only because of their proximity to the Chief Minister. .Apart from his own security, Vichare also prayed that all police vehicles which were procured under the Nirbhaya Fund be returned to the Mumbai police. He claimed that in June this year, Mumbai Police procured 220 Mahindra Boleros, 35 Maruti Ertigas, 313 Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle and 200 Honda Activa two-wheelers using the ₹30 crore corpus that it had received under the Nirbhaya fund for women safety.
