Supreme Court sets aside provision of Tribunal Reforms Ordinance 2021 fixing tenure of members of tribunal at 4 years

The Court also read down the provisions stating that it will apply only prospectively and not retrospectively to appointments made before April 4, 2021.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday struck down the newly inserted Section 184 of the Finance Act, 2017 as amended by the Tribunal Reforms (Rationalisation and Conditions of Service) Ordinance, 2021 (ordinance) to the extent it fixed the tenure of members and chairperson of tribunals at 4 years.
