The Supreme Court on Monday released a test version of its new electronic filing (e-filing) portal for crowd testing..The top court's e-committee, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, has in the recent years pushed for e-filing in courts and tribunals across the country. In October 2021, it directed all High Courts to ensure that all cases filed by the government are through e-filing mode.The CJI had, in September 2022, emphasised the importance of digitisation of court records going hand-in-hand with the endeavours sought be achieved by e-filing. He had said this with regard to hard copies by advocates needing to then be digitised by court staff, leading to an increased carbon footprint.A CJI-led bench had in March this year directed Debts Recovery Tribunals and Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunals to set up comprehensive E-Sewa Kendras to facilitate e-filing.The new e-filing portal of Supreme Court can be accessed here.
