The Supreme Court on Tuesday took suo motu cognisance of the issues concerning the circumstances in which courts should consider grant of bail to convicts who have been in custody for a considerable period of time while their criminal appeals remain pending before higher courts (Saudan Singh v. State of Uttar Pradesh).
