The Supreme Court on Wednesday came down heavily on a trial court for not even framing charges in a case that was adjourned 78 times and was pending for the last seven years (Dr Atul Krishna v. State of Uttarakhand)..“We have noticed that the Trial Court, despite having taken cognizance almost seven years back, has not moved in the matter even an inch thereafter, including to frame charges, as may be necessary, despite 78 adjournments in the case,” the order stated..The Bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar directed the trial court to ensure that the case is concluded within six months of the order..These observations came in a matter where the respondents were released on bail but were not appearing before the trial court despite service.
