Supreme Court Collegium recommends elevation of 3 judicial officers, 5 advocates as Madras High Court Judges

The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the proposal to elevate three judicial officers and five advocates as judges of the Madras High Court, following a meeting held earlier this week.

As per two Collegium statements, the following names have been proposed for appointment as Madras High Court Judges.

Judicial Officers

1.       Periyasamy Vadamalai

2.       Ramachandran Kalaimathi

3.       Govindarajan Thilakavadi

Advocates

1.       Venkatachari Lakshminarayanan,

2.       Lekshmana Chandra Victoria Gowri

3.       Pillaipakkam Bahukutumbi Balaji,

4.       Ramaswamy Neelakandan,

5.       Kandhasami Kulandaivelu Ramakrishnan

The decision was taken in a Collegium meeting held on January 17, 2023.

The Madras High Court presently has 52 Judges. If the above recommendations are accepted by the Central government, the working strength of the High Court will rise to 60 Judges as against a sanctioned strength of 75 Judges.
