The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Tuesday recommended the appointment of Advocate Arun Kumar as a judge of the Allahabad High Court..As per the resolution dated May 9, the recommendation was made by the Allahabad High Court Collegium on September 2, 2022 and the same was considered by the Supreme Court Collegium on January 17, 2023. The Collegium had deferred the proposal for Kumar's elevation in view of an Intelligence Bureau (IB) report. The judges' body had asked the IB to furnish specific material on the basis of which it arrived at its conclusion..On May 3 this year, the Department of Justice forwarded to the Supreme Court an IB report dated February 1 stating that it does not have any additional inputs.While three consultee-judges positively opined on the suitability of Kumar, another consultee-judge did not express any opinion. Further, the Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Uttar Pradesh have concurred with the recommendation, the Collegium noted."The candidate is about 51 years of age and fulfils the income criterion. He has put in over 25 years of practice at the Bar and has experience of conducting wide range of cases before the High Court in constitution, civil and revenue jurisdiction. Having regard to the above aspects and bearing in mind that the Intelligence Bureau has no additional/specific inputs or verifiable material, the Collegium is of the considered opinion that the candidate is eminently fit and suitable for appointment as a Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad," the Collegium concluded..[Read Notification]
