Courts designated to hear cases concerning Members of Parliament/ Members of the Legislative Assembly (MPs/MLAs) need only take up cases filed against MPs/MLAs and not cased filed by the legislators, the Madras High Court has clarified. .A Bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy made the observation while dealing with the suo motu case registered to oversee criminal trials against sitting and former legislators.."It has been noticed on several occasions that when there are benches specially dealing with matters pertaining to MPs and MLAs in both the High Court and the Districts, the MPs and MLAs some times lodge complaints and carry the matter to the Special Bench," the Court observed last week. .The Bench has now clarified that "the Special Benches need take up only complaints against MPs and MLAs and not where the MP or MLA may be the complainant.
