The Principal Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has decided to examine if the use of firecrackers should be banned in the National Capital Region (NCR) from November 7-30 (Indian Social Responsibility Network v. MoEF & CC & Ors).

The Court has issued notice on the issue to various Government authorities, in view of concerns that the use of firecrackers during the upcoming festive season, and the ensuing rise in air pollution, may worsen the COVID-19 situation in NCR.
