[BREAKING] Senior Advocate Vikas Singh elected President of Supreme Court Bar Association, AK Prasad is Secretary

Senior Advocate Vikas Singh has been elected President of the Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). Singh pipped his nearest rival Dr Adish Aggarwala by 344 votes. Singh got 837 votes as against 493 votes secured by Aggarwala. .Senior Advocate Pradeep Kumar Rai was elected Vice President, while advocate Ardhendumauli Kumar Prasad will be the new Secretary. Rai secured 984 votes defeating Senior Advocate SB Upadhyay who got 615 votes. Prasad secured 855 votes defeating Amit Anand Tiwari who garnered 543 votes. .The voting was held online in view of Covid-19 pandemic. The voting was held on NSDL platform from 7 am to 7 pm. .Advocate Rahul Kaushik has been elected as the Joint Secretary, Meenesh Kumar Dubey as the Treasurer and Dr Ritu Bhardwaj as Joint Treasurer. .This year's SCBA election has been mired in controversy due to disagreements within the body regarding the mode of holding elections.Initially, it was proposed that the elections should be held via online medium in view of the COVID-19 situation..An Election Committee under the Chairmanship of Senior Advocate Jaideep Gupta had taken a conscious decision to conduct the elections in virtual mode using a platform like National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL).However, after the commencement of the election process, the Executive Committee of SCBA passed a resolution stating that the election shall be carried out in a hybrid mode in the third week of February 2021. Consequently, the members of the Election Committee resigned..Meanwhile, incumbent President Dushyant Dave also tendered his resignation from the post.Later, a new Election Committee comprising Senior Advocates Pallav Shishodia, Rana Mukherjee and Siddhartha Dave decided to hold elections in a hybrid manner subject to the advice of the health advisory team..A health advisory team from All India Institute of Medical Sciences visited the Supreme Court and recommended that elections be held online. .The Election Committee decided to adhere to the said advice and decided to adopt online mode to hold the election. .[Read Results]
