Amid various cases involving charges of contempt being moved as of late, a PIL seeking a direction from the Supreme Court to implement the laws of Contempt of Court came up before a Bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde today..The Court, however, was not convinced it could pass any orders as sought for, with CJI Bobde orally observing, ."This is like you're saying that Court should pass an injunction that there should not be rapes and murders ... We are in full agreement that there should be no contempt of Court.... But, we cannot pass orders like this."CJI SA Bobde. The Court added, "This is unnecessary. There is a law in place, then why should we pass orders saying law should be followed? How can any court in the world direct the citizens to comply with laws and not break them?".While the Court refused to take up the PIL, it allowed the petitioner to approach an appropriate High Court in the event appropriate circumstances arise.
