The Supreme Court on Monday disposed of a plea seeking the evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine, after taking note of the fact all students have been brought back to India [Vishal Tiwari v. Union of India]..Pertinently, a Bench led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana also took note of the submission by the Central government that it is looking into the aspect of how to ensure that the education of students is not hampered. "Prayer has been made so that studies are not affected. AG has assured that government is looking into it. Thus, nothing survives in the plea and plea is accordingly disposed of," the top court said in its order. .To this, petitioner-in-person Vishal Tiwari said, "Something has to be done for their education. Their career cannot be hampered and it may (be allowed to) continue in our country."AG Venugopal replied that the government was looking into students' representations on continuation of their studies in India. "22,500 students have been evacuated and nationalities from other countries too. A mammoth task has been completed," he said. .During an earlier hearing in the case, the Supreme Court had mused as to how it can give directions to stop the Russia-Ukraine war. It had then sought the assistance of AG Venugopal in the matter."We have all the sympathies. We will ask the Attorney General to assist us.
