The "ridiculous" suggestion of the Madras High Court's Registry to a petitioner to separate certain connected petitions, which ultimately got sent to different Benches of the Court, prompted the Madras High Court to caution Registry officials that they cannot exercise judicial powers they do not possess (Sharpoorji Pallonji and Company Private Ltd v. Union of India and ors).
