Actor Rakul Preet Singh has moved the Delhi High Court seeking a direction to ensure that media does not broadcast any report on her in relation to the Rhea Chakraborty drug case being investigated by Narcotics Control Bureau. (Rakul Preet vs UOI)
In her urgent application before Court, Rakul Preet Singh has asserted that till the time the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) completes the investigation and files an appropriate report/document before the competent court, there should be no reportage on her.
Earlier this month, while directing Centre and other authorities to decide the issue of "unsubstantiated reports" raised by the actor, the Court had hoped that media houses would show restraint and abide by the Programme Code and other guidelines.
Rakul Preet Singh has submitted that in spite of the order, media has continued the "slander campaign" by not only re-broadcasting and reporting the earlier falsehoods but attributing statements to her during the investigation.
She has stated that her statement made to the NCB could be examined by the Court to see how the media was maliciously broadcasting and publishing fake news.
Rakul Preet Singh has said that the offending channels have invaded her privacy rights and have compounded the matter by broadcasting defamatory programmes repeatedly.
The application is likely to come up for hearing in the coming week.
