The Punjab & Haryana High Court will hold hearings through video conference from June 28. .The decision was taken in view of the COVID-19 situation so as to ensure safety of judges, lawyers, court staff and litigants. A notification to this effect was released by Registrar General Sanjiv Berry."On the basis of opinion of medical and administrative experts, and with a view to ensure safety of judges, advocates, staff and litigants, the Hon'ble Chief Justice has been pleased to order for the time being, subject to further medical opinion and change of circumstances, that all Benches will hold court through video conference from June 28, 2021," the notification stated. The hearings will take place through the approved software or platform, it said. But in case of technical failure of any of the platforms, the hearings may be held via WhatsApp or Google Duo as per the convenience of the Bench, the notification added. .The notification categorically mentioned that advocates, clerks, law interns will not be permitted inside the High Court building and all officers/officials attending the office must take the necessary precautions with masks and sanitizers..The notification stated that mentioning for listing of all the categories will completely be done away with from June 28 and all urgent cases will be accompanied with an ‘Urgent Form’ and will be entertained by the DRR Section) for listing matters.All the ‘freshly registered cases’ which are urgent in nature will be listed serial wise before the Bench, subject to the maximum number of cases that can be taken up in a day. Ordinary cases can be filed directly at 'Ordinary Filing counters'. In case there is urgency in cases which have been filed as 'ordinary', the same will be treated as urgent on filing of 'Urgent Form'. .[Read Notification]
