Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi has accepted the resignation of Advocate General (AG) of the State APS Deol..Deol was appointed AG of Punjab on September 27. He had later tendered his resignation following the controversy over his appointment after Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu had objected to Deol's appointment.Siddhu had alleged that Deol was a defence lawyer for former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and Paramraj Singh Umaranangal, both accused in the Behbal Kalan police firing case.Deol's resignation was, however, not accepted.Later, Deol had released a press statement alleging that Sidhu was obstructing the functioning of the government and office of Advocate General (AG). "Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu is obstructing the functioning of the Punjab government and there is a concerted effort by vested interests to malign the image of the Congress party in view of the upcoming elections in the State," the press release said..“Navjot Singh Sidhu is spreading misinformation to gain political advantage over his political colleagues," it added.
