Dr Shivamurthy Muruga Sharanaru has been remanded to police custody for three days by the Chitradurga District Court in a case registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act..Second Additional District and Sessions Judge and Special Judge BK Komala heard the plea filed by the police seeking five days custody for interrogation in the POCSO case..Sharanaru was arrested on Thursday night and after a medical examination he was produced before the judge on Friday early morning. After which, the judge asked Sharanaru to be presented before the court 11 o'clock..However, the police informed the court in the morning that Sharanaru was admitted to the district hospital due to heart related issues. .On the court enquiring how the accused was admitted to the hospital without the judge being informed, the police submitted his medical report and a doctor's opinion.The court after reviewing this ordered Sharanaru to appear before the bench. Accordingly, the police produced Sharanaru with tight security. Finally, the court ordered Sharanaru to be remanded in police custody for three days for investigation..The complaint against Sharanaru and four others was filed on August 26 before the Nazarbad Police Station at Mysore for offences under the POCSO Act as well as the Indian Penal Code (IPC).Subsequently, the case was transferred to Chitradurga Rural Police Station.The alleged offences were committed against minor girl students of Priyadarshini School, who were staying in Akkamahadevi Vasathi Nilaya, a hostel run by the Mutt.It was alleged that a girl aged about 16 years was being sexually harassed for the past 3 and half years and another minor girl aged about 15 years was being sexually harassed for the past 1 and half years by the accused.
