Irked by Counsel who boasted of 'making' judges, Punjab and Haryana High Court doubles costs imposed

The lawyer had jocularly expressed eagerness to pay even a sum of Rs. 1 lakh, if necessary.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court recently bumped up the costs imposed on a litigant to Rs 1 lakh rupees after his lawyer "rowdily exuberated" that he had made many judges and paying costs was not an issue. (Shiv Kumar Chauhan v. State of Haryana and Ors.)

Whereas the Court had initially dismissed the plea with costs of Rs 50,000, the lawyer had jocularly expressed eagerness to pay even a sum of Rs. 1 lakh, if necessary.
