Pendency of old cases is one of the issues which the Allahabad High Court needs to address, Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal said during his full court welcome reference which was organzied at the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court. .After being appointed as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Justice Bindal held court for the first time at Lucknow Bench on Monday.While expressing concern over the pendency of cases before the Allahabad High Court, he said that the Bar and Bench need to work together to tackle the same."Another issue, which is a cause of concern for all of us is pendency of cases in this court, which goes as old as 1974 before the Lucknow Bench. And we have been getting sort of comments from the Supreme Court also, especially the criminal appeals," he said. .The support of our High Court staff is also important, he added while stressing that he is getting good support from the staff at both Lucknow and the principal Bench at Allahabad. .The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the appointment of Justice Bindal as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court on September 16. He took oath as the Chief Justice on October 11.Justice Bindal was born on April 16, 1961 in Haryana and completed his LL.B from Kurukshetra University in 1985. He started practicing at High Court of Punjab & Haryana the same year and was elevated as a judge of High Court of Punjab & Haryana on March 22, 2006.He was later transferred to Jammu & Kashmir High Court and then to Calcutta High Court where he was serving as the acting Chief Justice before his transfer to Allahabad..See full event below.
