Breaking: Param Bir Singh moves Bombay High Court for CBI probe into actions of Anil Deshmukh

After withdrawing his plea from the Supreme Court, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has now moved the Bombay High Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the actions of Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh..Singh has also sought appropriate directions to ensure that transfer/ posting of police officials are not done on any consideration of pecuniary benefits to any politician..In the interim, he has sought for production of the complete files containing report of Rashmi Shukla, Commissioner (Intelligence), State Intelligence Dept. and of Home Department of State..Issue directions to the CBI to forthwith take custody of the entire CCTV footage from the residence of Deshmukh to prevent destruction..Earlier this week, the Supreme Court had observed that the allegations and counter allegations between Singh and Deshmukh are serious, but the case should be heard by the High Court first..Senior Advocate Mukul Rohtagi, appearing for Singh, asked the apex court for a direction to be issued to the High Court to hear the matter on Thursday in view of the fact that the case involves certain CCTV footage etc.The Court recorded Rohatgi's request in its order and asked him to raise the said request before the High Court..The plea before the apex court came close on the heels of a letter written by him to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray alleging that Deshmukh used to frequently interfere with police investigations and repeatedly call officers and give them instructions on the course of action to be followed by them while conducting investigation.Singh claimed that Deshmukh had held meetings in February, 2021 at his residence with police officers including Sachin Vaze of Crime Intelligence Unit, Mumbai and Sanjay Patil, ACP Social Service Branch, Mumbai, "bypassing their seniors and had instructed them that he had a target to accumulate Rs. 100 crores every month and had directed (the police officer) to collect money from various establishments and other sources.".The plea has been filed through Advocate Akshay Bafna..A plea filed by Mumbai-based lawyer Dr. Jaishri Laxmanrao Patil seeking a CBI probe into the allegations against Singh and Deshmukh was recently filed before the High Court..Patil alleged that Deshmukh is not trustworthy to hold the position of Home Minister of State as evident from the material that has come to light showing that he was abusing his powers by calling and instructing officers to extort money from common citizens and business persons.Patil stated in her plea that when he was Commissioner of Police, Singh also did not take cognizance of the matter by registering an FIR against Deshmukh.She stated that being the superior police officer and having powers under Section 154 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Singh had failed to register an FIR and the reasons for this inaction needed to be investigated..[BREAKING] Plea filed before Bombay High Court seeking CBI probe into allegations against Anil Deshmukh, Param Bir Singh
