Online portal for issuance of digital degree certificates active: Delhi University informs Delhi HC

Following the orders passed by the Delhi High Court, Delhi University students who graduated up till November 2019 can obtain digital degree certificates. (Dhritiman Ray vs University of Delhi).Delhi University (DU) recently informed a single Judge Bench of Justice Prathiba M Singh that it has activated the online portal for issuance of digital degree certificates i.e. www.digicerti.du.ac.in. .After registering themselves and giving details with respect to their academic qualification, name of their college, etc, a digital degree certificate shall be issued by DU, the Court was informed..The development came pursuant to several petitions by former DU students seeking issuance of degrees on an urgent basis. Upon inquiry, it was found that the varsity was unable to print degrees due to lack of printing facilities..Non-issue of degree certificate due to unavailability of paper, printing facilities completely derisory, inexcusable: Delhi HC pulls up DU.The Court was assured that the process of acquiring printer, etc for the purpose of printing the degree-certificates was on-going and would be completed soon..No reason for not adopting technically advanced methods: Delhi HC asks DU to consider issuing degrees through email.The Court eventually directed DU to come up with a protocol for issuance of digital degree certificates and appointed a Committee for that purpose..In compliance with the Court's order, the Committee met with DU officials and a sample digital degree certificate was paced before the Court. .Satisfied with the contents of the degree, the Court ordered, .Insofar as Petitioners in these petitions are concerned, it is directed that the digital degree certificates for all of them be issued by e-mail, on or before 13th August, 2020.Delhi High Court.For other students who graduated up till November 2019, the Court added, ...DU has activated the online portal for issuance of digital degree certificates being www.digicerti.du.ac.in, wherein the students have to register themselves and give their details including their academic qualification, name of their college, etc. Upon the same being completed by the students, the digital degree certificates for the students shall be issued within a maximum period of one week, after completing the verification etc.Delhi High Court.The Court has now sought an affidavit from DU on how it was working out the modalities with 'Digilocker' to transmit all the data relating to degrees awarded, within a time-bound manner. .The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology/Digilocker has also been asked to file an affidavit on the issue. .DU shall also file an affidavit on providing marksheets and transcripts through digital mode. .The matter would be heard next on September 7. .Petitioners were represented by Advocate Sarthak Maggon. .Advocates Mohinder Rupal, Hardik Rupal represented DU. .Read the Order:
