Nupur Sharma moves Supreme Court to revive earlier plea to club multiple FIRs; seeks stay on arrest

Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma has moved the Supreme Court seeking to reinstate her earlier petition in which she had prayed that the first information reports (FIRs) registered against her in different parts of the country for her remarks on Prophet Muhammad, be transferred to Delhi [NV Sharma v. Union of India]..Sharma has sought to renew her plea that was withdrawn after the Supreme Court had on July 1 refused to entertain it, while coming down heavily on her. In her plea seeking to pursue her earlier petition, she has contended that due to the top court's remarks against her, she is facing threats to life from fringe elements. Therefore, she has sought the Court's interference in clubbing the FIRs and transferring it to Delhi. There are at least 9 FIRs against Sharma in different States. Sharma has also sought a stay on her arrest. The plea will be heard tomorrow by the same bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala, which had refused to entertain the plea on the earlier occasion..A bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala had, while refusing to entertain her plea on July 1, remarked that Sharma was single-handedly responsible for fanning flames across India and should apologise to the whole nation."The way she has ignited emotions across the country.
