Karnataka HC calls for nomination of Deputy Commissioners to release ad hoc compensation to kin of prisoners who died of unnatural causes

The Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the state government to nominate Deputy Commissioners with a period of one month in order to release ad hoc compensation to the kin of prisoners who had succumbed to unnatural deaths in prisons.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Hemant Chandangoudar passed the order in compliance with various directions issued by the Supreme Court in the case of Re-Inhuman Conditions V State Of Assam in 2017. The case was in relation to unnatural deaths and inhuman conditions in 1,382 prisons across the country.
