Mukhtar Ansari sentenced to 5 years imprisonment in 23-year-old FIR under Gangsters Act by Allahabad High Court

The conviction arose out of an FIR which was lodged against Ansari in 1999 stating that he had a gang which committed heinous offences including murder, extortion, kidnapping and abduction.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday sentenced Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mukhtar Ansari to five years' rigorous imprisonment and a ₹50,000 fine under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act [State of UP v Mukhtar Ansari].
