The Supreme Court on Monday asked Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave and Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta to be more amicable with each other while arguing matters..While adjourning a hearing on anti-encroachment demolition drives, a Bench of Justices BR Gavai and JB Pardiwala said in lighter vein,“We will only request that you (Dave) and the Solicitor do not show your love and affection for each other so openly. Only requesting.”.During the hearing, the SG remarked that he cannot shout like Dave, after the Senior Advocate was vehemently submitting that such demolitions have become a trend these days at the instance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. Dave responded, “Show some manners. There is no other language he understands. Why are you showing that you are not deserving of this office?…At the instance of the BJP, the minority community is being targeted."The SG said such ‘off-the-cuff’ assertions were incorrect and that the Court should ignore Dave’s utterances arising out of frustration. The Bench then asked Dave to mellow down..After the Bench dictated its order, Senior Advocate Sanjay Hegde quipped, "Let us keep the verbal bulldozers outside Court.".As a parting shot, Dave remarked, “My good friend Mr Mehta despite knowing me for over 40 years does not accept that I have a high-pitched voice. So he always begins by saying that I am shouting.”.The Supreme Court had in July last year queried whether it can pass an omnibus order in a public interest litigation and, thereby, prevent Uttar Pradesh State authorities from acting against illegal buildings and constructions. The Bench had posed the question to Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, which has challenged the recent demolition of houses and other buildings carried out by State authorities in Prayagraj.Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind had moved the top court challenging the recent demolition of houses of those who had allegedly participated in protests against BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, after she had made remarks against Prophet Muhammad during a television debate, which sparked an international furore. The plea was filed through Advocate Kabir Dixit in an already-pending case before the top court, in which a status-quo order was passed on demolition drives in Delhi's Jahangirpuri.
