Reservation policy not applicable to law officers engaged by the government: Madras High Court

The Court dismissed a PIL seeking reservation for women and those belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) and the Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities in appointment as law officers.

Law officers engaged by the government do not hold a civil post and, therefore, the reservation policy mandated under Article 16(4) of the Constitution will not be applicable to such appointments, the Madras High Court has held.
