The Supreme Court will continue hearing the case arising from the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which eight persons, including farmers, were mowed down allegedly by a four-wheeler of Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni.
Teni was arrested and has been charged with murder.
The Court had initiated the case after two lawyers had written to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana seeking CBI probe.
The matter is being heard by a Bench of CJI Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli.
During the previous hearing, the Court had again pulled up the Uttar Pradesh government for "dragging its feet" while investigating the incident.
Appearing for the State, Senior Advocate Harish Salve had informed the Court that a report on the incident had been submitted in a sealed cover. To which CJI Ramana said,
"No, that was not required and we have just received it now...We waited till 1 AM last night for any filing. But we received nothing."
"We never said anything about sealed covers," Justice Kant added.
