The Karnataka High Court has asked the state government to take a clear stand on whether the period for which workers in state institutions remain in quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic would be considered as "period on duty".

This clarification was sought by the Court in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting the pitiable service conditions of housekeeping and allied staff working in COVID-19 hospitals and other designated treatment centres.
