No action yet for interim Welfare Fund payouts aid needy lawyers, clerks: Madras HC asks BCI, BCTN to submit complete financial statements

On June 16, the Court had strongly urged for an amendment to be brought to the State Bar Council Rules so that interim welfare fund payouts can be made to aid lawyers and clerks in need amid the COVID-19 crisis.

The Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to "audited financial statements/complete financials after being appraised that no action had been taken yet to enable the disbursement of advocate welfare funds in the form of interim payments to aid lawyers and advocates' clerks in need amid the COVID-19 crisis (Dr AE Chelliah v. The Chairman and Members of the Bar Council of Thamizh Naadu and Puducherry and ors).
