Haryana Nuh violence: Plea filed before Supreme Court against VHP protests in Delhi

A plea has been mentioned before the Supreme Court today concerning the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) protests slated to be held in the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi on Wednesday over the communal violence that broke out in the Nuh district of Haryana last Monday..Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud has informed that orders to list the case would be passed immediately. "There are 23 protest marches which are coming to the capital.. violence in the neighbouring state.. it is very urgent," Senior Advocate CU Singh told the Court. "Give us the papers.. we will immediately pass orders (on listing the case)," CJI Chandrachud replied. .The matter was initially mentioned before a bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi this morning. “This is a fresh IA in the hate speech case where a judgment was delivered, Shaheen Abdullah case. In Delhi, yesterday it was said that 27 protest meetings are planned to protest against what happened at Nuh (Haryana),” Singh submitted. However, Justice Bose indicated that he was unsure of whether he could accommodate the urgent request since the power to do the same lies with the Chief Justice of India (CJI). “Just confirm from the Chief Justice of India about whether we can take mentionings. (Then) we will accommodate,” Justice Bose told Singh..Singh promptly approached the CJI and sought clarity on the matter, minutes before the arguments were slated to start in the Article 370 case being heard by a five-judge Constitution bench of the Court.“I am really sorry to do this but, a clarification is needed whether Court 3, milord Hon'ble Justice Bose's bench can hear mentioning. There is something very urgent,” Singh told the bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud.The CJI, in turn, assured the senior counsel that the matter would be listed if an email is sent.“There is a provision in the SOP. Circulate an email. I have said that however urgent something is, once the mentioning is not available or the mentioning is over, an email will be put up to me by the Registrar, listing. I will pass the orders immediately. Just read the SOP, it has everything in that,” the CJI said.The Chief Justice added that he has been liberal with allowing mentioning requests since the five senior most judges would be sitting in the Constitution bench from today to finish hearing the Article 370 case.“Yesterday, every mentioning request that was made until late night yesterday was attended to. In fact, I was, in fact, a little more liberal because I knew that this is going to happen, that we at the first five are going to be in a Constitution bench. All requests have been granted. If there is something over and above that, the SOP has a provision even for that. Follow the SOP as I'll give you a date immediately,” the CJI told Singh. “We will send that email immediately. There is something very dire,” Singh responded.Following this, the Court has now assured that orders to list the case would be passed soon. The matter may be listed today..As per HT, violence broke out in Nuh district on Monday evening after a mob attacked a VHP procession following rumours that cow vigilante Monu Manesar would be participating in the march. As per NDTV, at least five people were killed in the ensuing clashes and at least 70 were injured, including policemen. The police have registered about 40 cases and arrested over 80 people in connection with the communal violence, it was further reported.The VHP later announced that they would hold protests over the violence in the NCR on Wednesday.
