All pending cases in the Amazon-Future Group dispute will now be heard by Justice C Hari Shankar of the Delhi High Court [Future Retail Limited v. Amazon.com NV Investment Holding LLC and Ors]..Justice Shankar today said that he would deal with the petitions quickly, as he does not want to keep them "hanging"..While hearing the matter today, the Court asked the counsel appearing for both parties to place on record short notes setting out the controversy by Thursday. To this, Justice Shankar said that the issue should be raised with the Chief Justice, since it was through an administrative order that the present cases came to be listed before him..In January this year, the Court had stayed the arbitration proceedings in relation to Future Group's 2019 deal with Amazon before the Singapore Tribunal.A Division Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh had also stayed the order of the single-judge which had refused to intervene in the matter and dismissed the pleas filed by the two subsidiaries of the Future Group yesterday..The Supreme Court in April last year had stayed proceedings before the Delhi High Court pertaining to the enforcement of the Emergency Award against Future Group's deal with Reliance.A Bench of Justices Rohinton Fali Nariman, Hrishikesh Roy and BR Gavai had granted stay after hearing an appeal by Amazon challenging the March 22 order passed by a Division Bench of the Delhi High Court. The said order then stayed had directed the attachment of Future Group companies and Kishore Biyani's properties.
