Former Gujarat HC judge, Justice RR Tripathi appointed as Chairperson of Gujarat Human Rights Commission

Former judge of the Gujarat High Court, Justice Ravikumar Rameshwardayal Tripathi has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission by the Governor of Gujarat.

Governor Acharya Devvrat by the powers of Section 22 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, has appointed Justice (retd) Tripathi as the Chairperson of the GSHRC by a notification dated September 2.

The recommendation to make the appointment was made by a committee consisting of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani (as the Chairperson); Speaker of legislative assembly, Advocate Rajendra Suryaprasad Trivedi; leader of the opposition, Paresh Dhanani and the State Home Minister, Pradeepsinh Jadeja.

The appointment has been made for three years or until Justice Tripathi attains the age of 70, whichever is earlier.

Justice Tripathi started practice in the High Court of Gujarat. He was appointed Assistant Government Pleader from July 1987 to May 1991. He has also rendered services as Additional Public Prosecutor from December 1991 to May 1998.

He was elevated to the Bench of the High Court as an Additional Judge on September 17, 1999, and confirmed as a Permanent Judge on September 16, 2001.
