The Kerala High Court today directed that a report be submitted on the steps taken to protect the interests of children in Juvenile Justice Homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The report is to be submitted by April 15. .The matter was taken up through video conferencing by the Bench of Justices AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Shaji P Chaly pursuant to an order passed last Friday by the Supreme Court. .This order had directed the concerned authorities to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus in child protection homes and foster homes..Supreme Court takes suo motu cognizance of COVID-19 scare in child protection, foster homes; passes slew of directions for prevention.To this end, the High Court Bench today impleaded the Secretary of the Social Justice Department and the Director of the Women and Child Department as additional parties in the suo motu case registered for monitoring the matter..The High Court went on to note that the Supreme Court had directed, "the Juvenile Justice Committee of all the High Courts to not only ensure due compliance of this order but they shall also regularly monitor the implementation of the directions issued hereinabove as frequently as possible and at least once a week.".In view of the same, the High Court Bench has directed that the first report in the matter be submitted by the concerned authorities by April 15. .[Read the order]
