The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Delhi government to ensure that the girls studying in schools in the national capital get uninterrupted supply of sanitary napkins..A Division Bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad passed the direction while disposing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against non-distribution of sanitary napkins to girls under the Kishori Yojana..It was stated that the Department of Education (DOE) had formulated and adopted the scheme under which girl students were provided napkins to maintain hygiene and health. However, the scheme, the PIL said, was stopped in January 2021 putting the students at great inconvenience. The Court was informed today that the Delhi government has issued a tender for distribution of sanitary napkins and in the meantime, the school authorities have been provided funds to procure napkins from the government e-marketplace for distribution. The Court was further told that the distribution has already started and the tender will also be finalised soon..In light of these submissions, the Court noted that nothing survives in the petition as the issue has already been dealt with and an interim measure has been put in place. The case was, therefore, disposed of.
