Election Commission has nothing to do with barring of disqualified lawmakers from bypolls to same House: Poll body tells Supreme Court

The poll body submitted that the Central government is the appropriate party for the adjudication of the interpretation of Article 19(1)(e) and the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India.

The Election Commission of India has told the Supreme Court that it has nothing to do with adjudicating the question of whether or not lawmakers who are disqualified for defection must be barred from re-contesting in the by-elections for the remaining term of the House to which they were originally elected.
