The Supreme Court on Thursday held that the phrase 'soon before her death' used in Section 304B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on dowry death must be interpreted to mean proximately before the death of the wife and not immediately prior to such death [Devender Singh and ors. v. State of Uttarakhand].
