Dignity of public offices depends on citizens: Bombay HC while hearing plea against FIR over allegedly abusive tweets against Maharashtra CM

The Court has directed the accused, Sameet Thakkar to appear before the concerned police station on October 5 for the recording of his statement under Section 161 of CrPC.

Twitter celebrity Sameet Thakkar has filed a plea before the Bombay High Court seeking directions to quash and set aside an FIR filed against him for allegedly tweeting abusive content on his personal Twitter handle against the present Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray.

The Bench comprising of Justices SS Shinde and MS Karnik heard the petition on Thursday. Advocates Abhinav Chandrachud, Yashovardhan Deshmukh and RS Renu appeared on behalf of Sameet Thakker. Additional Public Prosecutor JP Yagnik appeared for the State.
