The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the Central government to expeditiously take a decision on the proposal sent by the Delhi government to increase fine from ₹500 to ₹5,000 for acts which lead to mosquito breeding. .A Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora also asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to file a detailed status report with all the facts and figures detailing the number of dengue in all the 12 zones of the national capital.MCD was ordered to file the report in three weeks. The case will be considered next on March 19..The Court passed the order while hearing two suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) petitions dealing with mosquito and mosquito related menace in the city..Amicus Curiae Rajat Aneja informed the Court that as per the latest report filed by the MCD, dengue cases in certain zones of Delhi have seen a 300% increase in the last three months.Aneja pointed out that the High Court has been monitoring the matter for more than three years and yet the cases have increased.The Bench remarked that it is because the High Court is monitoring the matter, the cases have risen 300% otherwise they would have risen by 3000%.“If we were not monitoring the issue, the cases would have risen by 3000%,” the Court remarked.
