The Delhi High Court on Friday took suo motu cognisance of the recent incident of fire breaking out at a coaching centre in the capital city’s Mukherjee Nagar area and directed the authorities to examine the safety status of such institutes. .A Division Bench of Justices Jasmeet Singh and Vikas Mahajan took note of the news reports of Thursday's incident and issued notice to Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).It directed these authorities to examine the fire safety certificates and building plans of all coaching centres in the national capital.The Court then placed the matter before the bench headed by the Chief Justice to be heard on July 3. Mukherjee Nagar is a major coaching hub.Several videos of the fire incident showed students climbing down the ropes to save themselves from the fire.According to a PTI report, the fire started in the five-storeyed building from an electricity metre when nearly 250 students were attending classes.Another report suggested that more than 60 students sustained injuries in the incident and 11 of them are still in the hospital.
