The Delhi High Court today issued notice in a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking free COVID vaccination of students taking the XII standard board examinations in offline mode (Jyoti Agarwal v. Union of India)..Response from the Central government and the Delhi government was sought by a Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh. .The petitioners before Court are Jyoti Agarwal, Sanjivani Aggarwal and Pradeep Shekhawat, who argued that the measure would safeguard the rights of the students guaranteed under Article 14, 15 and 21 of the Constitution of India. .Aggarwal said that the petition was "in the interest of the country". .She informed the Court that given the fact that the XII board examinations have been deferred for now, it was imperative that the all students, who are generally below the age of 18 years, be vaccinated against COVID-19 before they are made to sit for the same. .The petitioners also asserted that the new strain of COVID-19 was affecting the younger generation as well. .The matter will be heard next on June 4.
