The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to stay the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections..A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad said that once the notification for election has been issued by the State Election Commission (SEC), the Court will not stay the same. .The SEC had announced the election schedule for MCD on Friday stating that the polling for the city's 250 municipal wards will take place on December 4 and results will be announced on December 7..Three petitions were listed before the High Court today challenging the delimitation of wards and their reservation. As they came up for hearing, the counsel for the petitioner requested the Court to stay the election till the pleas are heard. However, the Court said that it will not pass any such order.“Once elections are notified, we can’t stay it,” the bench remarked..The Court issued notices to the SEC, Central and State governments on the matters and listed them for hearing on December 15 when another petition by a Congress leader challenging the delimitation is also listed..The plea by Congress politician Anil Kumar has argued that the division of wards for the elections was done based on community and religious lines, thereby, violating the basic tenets of the Constitution."The splitting of Dalit and Minority population from one ward to many adjoining wards has been done under conspiracy to bulldoze their voice," the plea alleged. The petition further contended that the delimitation process has pushed disadvantaged wards falling in the lower income group further into the dark by increasing their population sizes, whereas elite wards have been handpicked for smaller population sizes. All four pleas have sought the quashing of the delimitation order as unconstitutional. .MCD elections: Plea in Delhi High Court by Congress leader against delimitation; alleges splitting of Dalit, minorities into many wards
