The Delhi High Court on Monday inaugurated the new e-Sewa Kendra on its premises..The centre will provide a variety of services for the litigants including assistance in joining video conference (VC) hearings, virtual traffic court related queries, jail mulaqat, e-filing, case status enquiry etc.The e-Sewa Kendra was inaugurated by the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice DN Patel, in presence of the Chairman of Information Technology Committee, Justice Rajiv Shakdher. The e-Sewa Kendras have been made operational in all the District Court complexes as well.The Kendras have been established pursuant to the vision of the Supreme Court e-committee with the objective of assisting all the stakeholders involved in the legal system and ensuring that technological development reaches everyone.The inauguration of the e-Sewa Kendra facility took place near Gate No. 7 of the Delhi High Court, and was attended by a host of dignitaries like the Delhi High Court Judges, Principal, District & Session Judges of all District Courts, the Principal Judge of the Family Court; the Chairman, Centralised Computer Committee, District Courts and the Chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi.Apart from this the Presidents, Vice-Presidents and Secretaries of the Delhi High Court Bar Association and District Courts' Bar Association were also present..The event commenced at 4:50 PM with the unveiling of an inauguration plaque and cutting of the ribbon by the Judges of the Delhi High Court.Following this, the Judges assembled in the front lawn, where the welcome address and high tea were scheduled to take place.After presenting a potted plant to the dignitaries on the dias, Chairman of the IT Committee Justice Rajiv Shakdher delivered the welcome address. Shakdher mentioned:"The inauguration of e-Sewa Kendras brings us closer to providing access to justice for all. The Court and its procedures can be a labyrinth. We offer a host of the services to the litigant, hoping to make this a smoother process for them."Justice Shakdher gave due credit to the judicial officers and added,"During the pandemic, when people were scared to step out of their houses, the judicial officers, court staff and the IT team of the Delhi High Court made it possible for the Court to continue. Without the IT team we would have found it difficult to conduct VC hearings. These officers who assisted the Court during a turbulent time should be honoured.".Thereafter, Chief Justice DN Patel began his special address by stating that technology comes with a challenge and that the e-Seva Kendra would ensure that there remains no barrier in providing access to justice for all. "The e-Sewa Kendra is one more feather in Delhi High Court's cap. This Court is leading the country in several aspects; computerisation is no exception to it. In 1988, computers were first introduced in this Court and we haven't looked back since. The VC rules, hybrid hearings, e-filing, e-payments, e-RTIs and now e-Sewa Kendras are all such technological advancements in our legal system. This wouldn't have been possible without the Hon'ble E-Committee of the Supreme Court of India, presided over by Justice DY Chandrachud."He appreciated the efforts made by the Judges, the staff and by the the IT Committee headed by Justice Shakdher.Finally, the officers and officials of the IT team of the Delhi High Court and District Courts were felicitated by the distribution of certificates acknowledging the courage, devotion and exemplary performance shown by them during the COVID-19 lockdown.
