The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain in five separate cases related to the Delhi Riots of 2020. .Justice Anish Dayal pronounced the order today after having reserved it on April 20..All the five FIRs (80/2020, 91/2020, 92/2020, 117/2020 and 120/2020) were registered at Dayal Pur Police Station. Hussain was booked for several offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including attempt to murder, rioting, mischief by fire and criminal conspiracy.Senior Advocate Salman Khurshid had appeared for Hussain and argued that all the co-accused in the case have been granted bail and that his client was the only person who has been in jail for the last three years.Khurshid argued that Hussain was not named in the initial witness statements and that no specific acts have been attributed to him..While framing charges against Hussain in December last year, a trial court in Delhi had observed,"Every member of the mob assembled there [at Hussain's house], participated in achieving this object i.e. to target Hindus. Such preparations made and this house being used as a base, seen along with the conduct of the members of this mob, show that they were acting out of prior meeting of their mind and with a clear-cut objective in mind, to harm Hindus in every possible manner.".In March this year, Additional Sessions Judge at Karkardooma court Pulastya Pramachala framed murder charges against Hussain in relation to the death of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma, whose body was found in a drain during the Delhi Riots of 2020.
